Yuvak Mandal - “Youth Committee”. Here at Shree Swaminarayan Temple, East London, the Yuvak Mandal has been at the heart of the temple for over 25 years. A powerful vision created by our late Mahant Purani Swami Hariswarupdasji, we are dedicated to empowering and engaging the young members of our community and committed to not only spreading the divine knowledge and teachings of our Santana Dharma and the Swaminarayan Sampraday, but fostering personal development and life skills. Yuvak Mandal provides a platform for the youth to all connect, learn and thrive together by carrying out weekly activities at the temple and organising events for all to enjoy.
The youth of our temple possess tremendous skills and abilities and we use these for the day-to-day running of the temple. Yuvak Mandal operate in various departments such as audio and visual, band and lazium, decoration, photography, event management and many more.
There are various meanings of Svadhyay within our scriptures. It defines as continuously and regularly working on oneself. It also means the study of the Vedas which is considered the essence of knowledge and truth. Svadhyay also means to reflect on oneself to improve one’s life.
Lord Swaminarayan’s vision is to impart ultimate knowledge and happiness to all living beings and with this in mind, the framework and all lessons, activities and resources within, are created in a unique way which is accessible and engaging to everyone, even generations to come.
Every Thursday evening from 7:30-8:30pm, we hold weekly satsang classes, also known as sabhas, where we implement the Svadhyay syllabus. We cater for all ages starting from the age of 4 all the way to 18+. It’s not just a weekly lecture on what we should and should not do, but a mixture of gaining knowledge from our scriptures, appreciating our culture and values, acquiring life-skills and making friends. Whether it’s a debate, a game of Kahoot, or a practical activity, you can be sure that every week is different. It is more important now than ever, to teach our youth and the future generations to come, our history, values and dharma so they can stand strong and proud to know their roots and who they are.
Our band and lazium team were first formed well over 35 years ago and since then, many youths have joined to share their passion and knowledge of music. We carry out weekly sessions to teach those who have a passion, and then portray our fantastic skills at yearly utsavs, festivals and events.
If you have what it takes, then you are more than welcome to join various youth activities, programs or events, to give your helping hand. Your seva will be most valued and can be either physically, mentally or financially or all three. If you are interested and passionate above giving your time for selfless service to please our beloved Lord Swaminarayan, then you can complete our online contact form (https://eltemple.uk/contact/) with a short message and someone from our YM team will revert back to you accordingly.
